Ive decided to put something in my trunk other than extra fluids and tools. But since alot of cars get jacked i dont really want to spend more than 300 incase it gets stolen. Ive been looking around on ebay and at some of those combo deals from best buy and circuit city..... but the ones in the stores seem like the rms per speaker (with the amp they provide) averages about 150w. That seems rediculously low considering i have 90rms for 6x9s. On ebay they have some combos but im not really sure about the brands.... Legacy, Volfenhag, profile, and acouple more. I dont really want to hunt around alot for things seperately so i was hoping to get a package deal. Anyone have any ideas, or know of any sites where i can get a good combo? But if anyone knows seperate stuff to get that sounds good, i can search around for that.
Thanks

*EDIT*
This is what i was looking at on ebay.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=18796

i found the amp specs.... http://www.millionbuy.com/vofzx7180.html
and the sub specs (pretty sure this is it .... http://www.millionbuy.com/vofzx4710.html

I priced it out, and either way, it comes to about 342, plus then i have to get a sub box...... hmmmmm

Thanks for the info, im completely lost on this stuff. Do you think that RMS will hit hard enough? I like to listen to mostly rap and dont mind spending alittle more if it will make it hit hard.

*EDIT* Probably should have looked at the auction before i posted...... So its one speaker 400rms with a 400rms x1 @4ohms ...... that seems pretty good. So the red speakers (cant remember the brand volfenburg or something) are no good?
Also what about this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=18805

Ok, so now im doing what i didnt want to do and am searching through everything i can find. I got some bad reviews on that RF301 amp, so im kinda sketchy about that. I did find a sorny and a Audiobahn amp that seem pretty juicy. First the Sorny : http://www.epinions.com/pr-Sony_XM-D1000P5...lay_~full_specs

or for ~$60 more i can get somehting like http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=18797

Im not even sure if i should get a mono or dual channel. I think it would be best for me to just run one sub now, anything more my car will either shake apart, or my 88hp wont beable to keep up with the current draw. but would it be bad later on to get another amp and sub? can you have 2 amps driving 2 different subs?
any ideas on any of this stuff would be great. i just dont want to buy something crappy.

Thanks for that link, but it raises more questions...... the lower the Ohms the better right? so 900x1 @ 2ohms would be better than 800x1 @4ohms? and how do you know what ohm its at? does it deal with setup of the speakers?

technically speaking, 800 watts at 4 ohms would be louder than 900 watts at 1 ohm. however, most amps put out max power at 1 ohm, or lower ohm loads. but you should not buy your amp and then buy your subwoofers. always buy your subwoofers first, and then match your amp to your subwwofers, because they may have an odd impedence, causing you not to be able to use the full power of your amp.

i would keep looking on ebay, they usually have great deals on there

Stay away from the bandpass boxes. Yes they do make the woofer louder, but the beat is heavily inaccurate. Go with something sealed, but make sure the box is the recommended size for the woofer to get maximum beat.

Ok, what about this
AMP: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=18797

Speaker choice

http://www.epinions.com/pr-Kicker_S10L52_C...lay_~full_specs
http://www.epinions.com/Rockford_Fosgate_8...lay_~full_specs
http://www.epinions.com/pr-Car_Speakers_Ro...lay_~full_specs

the amp+speaker+box+wires should bring me to about $400 which is alittle more that i wanted to spend, but I want to make sure that im not gonna be wasting money and space putting thump in my trunk. Do you think this is over kill? Is my car going to sh1t itself?

The amp might be overkill. I'd look at something with like an 800W peak. Underpower is always better. Eitherwise the woofer might go south. The first Kicker is gonna be your best bet in woofers. And yes, your car will s**t itself. I've got a 800W Sony 12" (200W RMS) and a Boss 650W amp (175x1 at 4ohm) and my car already s**ts itself.

Ok, so i decided i am getting this amp.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=18797 and i was certain i was going to get the kicker 15 (CVR15) until i saw an audiobahn 12 (AW1200q)

The amp has a RMS of 560 @ 2 ohms (1000peak

the Kicker 15 would handle 500 rms @2 ohms (1000 peak), it has a 100oz magnet, 88.5db sensitivity. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=18804

The audiobahn is 700rms @2ohms and 1400peak, it also has a 120oz magnet and a sensitivity of 92.7dB http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...bayphotohosting

Which one should i get? im totally stumped.

I'd say it depends on whether or not your box is going to be ported... IF the box is going to be sealed I would suggest doing something around your 6x9s or else when the sub pulls in it will create a vaccuum and suck the cone of the 6x9's down... or vice versa blow it right out when the sub is pushing out.

Thanks for the info, looks like i have something to use my scrap wood on. Well it looks like the audiobahn is out. Being the person that i am, i wanted to get a jump on things before my parts got here and sat around. Yesterday night i started construction on a box. I didnt like the 1.8cf box that they gave plans for, so i altered it alittle. What i finally came up with is a monster 26x20x16 box yielding 4.8cf (which makes it too big for the audiobahns). The speaker specs say the min is 1.8cf and the max is 5.0cf. I also have alot of braceing on the inside, so the cf of my box probably works out to ~4.5 or so. Am i going to stress the speaker by having an enclosure so close to the max specs? There is always the possiblity of attaching extra pieces on the inside to bring down the cf. Probably should have shot for about 3cf, but i figured, anything in my trunk is gonna rattle anyway, so why not just take up most of the trunk with the box. Also, after i get everything caulked and braced up, would it be a good idea to attach little rubber feet, or a rubber mat to the bottom of the box? just trying to think of ways to help out the sound.
If anyone wants to see inside my box before i seal it up, i can post pics, let me know.

Why don't you go to Home DePot and get a sheet of 3/4" MDF for pretty cheap and build the box out of that? I would bet money on it that a box made out of scrap wood will sound like crap. Normally you pick a sub, then the amp, then build the box to the specs of the sub.

Sorry shoulda been more clear.... The scrap wood i was referring to is the left over 3/4"MDF from the sub box. Everything is all straight now..... the box is almost done, i got the amp and sub on order...... the last thing i have a question on is in the kicker tech manual it says "all sealed boxes must contain 50% polyfil". From reading around i kinda know what polyfil is, but it seems that if i fill my box with it, its going to get in the speaker or just blow around. Is there something im missing? is polyfil a block or something?
