I'm in the process of giving my Taurus a makeover. Mechanically, the car is awesome. Name a problem, I've probably taken care of it. Anyways, I thought it would be kind of nice to have an SHO cluster to replace my stock cluster (85mph, woo-hoo...). Well, I've read around and found that the SHO cluster is a bolt-on, plug-n-play mod, but I have one question that I don't remember reading about. My stock cluster doesn't have a tach. Would the tach on the SHO cluster work if I just put it in?

When I replaced my 1992 GL's standard cluster with a Tach cluster, everything was plug and play. No mods needed. Same with the speedometer, I had a police installed on mine.

Its a nice mod. It looks a lot better

mmmm police package spedo...

I'm used to a 140 Mph spedo in my other car, so having the needle near the end of the guage when I'm cruising on the highway seems wierd.

Where'd you get the police from? I'd like to add that to my sable, but finding a sho cluster is probrably easier.

any yes, the tach will work. If you're looking for a tach, you can switch to a sable cluster and gain a tach, but you're still stuck with the 85 Mph spedo.

I paid big bucks for my Police speedometer, $70. But it was brand new and came with odometer instructions. They were harder to find back then.

The other thing thats kind of cool was the police speedometer lit up different from the rest of the cluster. It was more green.

Yeah the '89 cluster would fit earlier models, but I don't remember if you had to wire up the tach or not. It should work since the Taurus MT5 had a tach and so did the Sables.
