The Service Engine Soon light came on in my 99 Taurus LX with the 3.0L engine. I went to Autozone and they scanned the codes for me. The code is P1401 and the description is as follows:

Code P1401:
DPFE EGR Circuit High Input

Does this mean the DPFE sensor or the EGR valve is bad? How much are they usually and are they easy to replace? Thanks for any help.

I'm leaning towards the DPFE sensor, Ford seems to have a bit of problems with them

DPFE... change that...

before that.. disconnect the EGR tube going to the EGR valve & suck on it... when the engine is idling... if the engine flutters... and then is normal when you stop sucking.. the egr is open closing fine...
