I own a 2004 Taurus SEL with 6-cyl Duratec 24V DOHC. Recently while attempting to change the PCV valve on my engine my mechanic buddy removed part you see in the photo. The photo below is actually two parts -
Sleeve Electric blue Artifact Jewellery Fashion accessory

the gray part is the PCV valve and it's attached to the black part, which is O-ringed, has four prongs/legs fits into an opening in the engine
valve cover.

The black part broke and can't be reinserted without leaks. Every single person I talk to has "the answer" and when they give me the part
number, it's wrong. Seems like there are 2 similar Duratec engines, one has front and rear valve covers (that's mine) and the other has left
and right covers.. The last parts guy I talked to at Ford told me that he sees this part in his book, but there is no name for it and that it's
actually part of the valve cover therefore I cannot buy it. Also they don't even make the valve cover anymore.

Surely there has to be a part manufacturer somewhere. Does anyone have even a clue about this?

I am a working musician in Nashville and I really need my car back!

No idea what a UMI is but if you see that U-shaped/elbow hose with metal clamps, it's not visible but the other end of that little elbow goes into the PCV valve.

I should have mentioned that you should read through that thread for a possible fix.

Having owned a '04 Sable DOHC, I know exactly what this is. Not uncommon at all to break a tab or two when trying to remove the PCV. With that said, I don't know what the part number is. either. I have a spare and all it has for numbers is A5-002-MS-19...which is not a Ford number. I had to go to my local U Pull yard to find one...and, that meant removing the valve cover in order to gently release the tabs from the inside.

You want to sell that spare?

I may have dodged a bullet when replacing my PCV valve since I was tugging on the hose quite a bit to get it off the PCV valve and that "part" stayed intact.

I guess it's something to be aware of if the upper intake ever needs to come off again.

That is the oil separator gasket. Easy to brake, hard to remove, and impossible to order. To replace it(correctly and without leaks) you WILL have to remove the valve cover. THEN remove the cover off the oil separator box thingy. Best to go to your local junk yard and pull one or two of the gaskets (the the PVC) to know what you're doing and not to mess anything up. BE CAREFUL WHEN REMOVING THE UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD (UIM) DONT BREAK THE DPPFE SENSOR CONNECTED TO THE BACK OF IT!! It's a $50+ part that is next to impossible to pull at a junkyard because the plastic is so brittle and the hoses get stuck to it.

Chartmaker also has "fixed" an oil separator or two as well. Find his post on here about it. He used a heat gun to get the fins/pins/arms where they need to be.
Never had issue with oil sep. I had/have 3 Taurus and 1 Sable G-4 and never had an issue. The PCV adapter seems to be hard mounted in the oil sep and they did not turn when removing the PCV.
The G-4.5 DOHC turns instead of unscrewing the PCV. Best deal, pull the PCV and grommet out in one piece. Put it back in one piece.
If the prongs are too loose to keep it in spring it as in the pic, REMOVE the O-ring first find a socket to spring the fingers and put in oven at 300F for 30 minutes and let cool. Make the prongs too big will make it very hard to get the grommet in the hole.
If the prongs are broken and the grommet want to stay in the hole with the O-ring as a holder, then use thread locker on the O-ring and the cleaned hole.
Only suggestions, your success in not my responsibility. Just what I would do.
OPINION: Maybe Ford could explain why the put the coil pack on G-4 on the back.

I stand corrected. I thought the "pcv adapter" was the oil separator. I do know it's not supposed to come out with the pcv though. Only way you're supposed to be able to remove it is my undoing the valve cover.

I'll try to look at a diagram later and see if I can find a part name

Oil sep on G-4's is in the valley between the cylinders. That system is hyper over kill. They put fresh air in both valve covers and take it out in the center through the oil sep for balanced flow sided to side. Only vehicle that does that as far as I know. Vast majority of engines use fresh air in one valve cover, and out the other side valve cover. That favors one bank over the other but that is over kill.
Less complicated and fewer parts is the G-4.5 DOHC used the simple side to side system. That uses the valve cover as the oil separator. Still more complicated than the Vulcan and Lincoln Intech which uses the rubber grommet and vertical PCV just pushes in the valve cover. Vertical PCV uses gravity balance while horizontal PCV uses a spring.

Maybe a new o-ring or an ever so slightly bigger o-ring would be a good idea if the prongs are broken.
