Yup. Sounds normal for a Duratec.

unhook the battery for a minute and deplete the electrical system (hit the brakes).

Retest, and it'll shift firmer and at more normal points.

Don't do this very much though...not good for the trans.

AX4N's will also skip gears as needed, the standard behavior for non-synchronous transmissions. Flooring a Tec from a standing start can get it to skip 2nd gear completely.

The Tec, like most 4 valve engines, likes to rev, and produces the most power at high RPM, Tranny will normally shift at those RPMs at WOT.

2 valve vs 4 valve

The Tec, like most 4 valve engines, likes to rev, and produces the most power at high RPM, Tranny will normally shift at those RPMs at WOT.
4 valve systems give a flatter torque curve. Usually they tune one intake for lower rpm and the other for higher rpm. A 2 valve usually limits you to either, not both.

Over head cam lets you run higher rpm with lower spring pressure.

Old saying. Torque does the work, HP braggs about it.
