So whats the biggest widest tires you can fit on a 1997 Taurus? Do you think 245s will fit? Or would 225's be fine? And whats the pattern?

I didnt see that on the wiki I just looked. I searched for tires and also searched for wheels but nothing came up.

245/45ZR17 will fit with no modification if your wheel offset is correct, IIRC. It might rub, though. The bigger your tires, the slower you go, though. You have a virgin vulcan motor, right? 225/55R16's would be more than enough. I just put 225/55R16 Falcon Ziex 912's on my car, and I've yet to break them loose... and I drive like a maniac on twisty country roads. If you can find a 6.5" wide 16" rim, go for a 225/50R16 tire, because the smaller diameter will effectively raise your final drive ratio, and hopefully the quicker "gearing" will make up for the heavier rims and tires.

And the bolt pattern you're looking for is 5x108. Look up Lincoln Mark VIII wheels on www.car-part.com, it's an automotive recycler inventory site. Some Mark VIII rims are 7" wide.

What size tires will fit on the stock rims? And thank you for that information.[/b]
Stock on a '97 is 15"x6", so you could squeeze a 225/60R15 on there, but it'd be a tight fit. If you got the 15"x6.5" rims off a T-bird, you could squeeze on a 245/50R15, but again, tight. Honestly, go to a boneyard and pick up some G4 aluminum rims or G3 SHO rims, if you can find them. Pretty cheap, decent weight, and better tire selection. Also, you can get decent tires in low-profiles for good prices at the boneyard, too.

I was running 225/55/16's on 16x7.5" 40 mm offset wheel's on my 98' Sable wagon, and wouldn't go any wider. This set up really brought a new life to this car, over the stock 15's.
