Had to change a rear tail light bulb, right side was original, 19 years old. The three retaining nuts had like a cap nut and a rubber like black seal that when removed is so distorted it is unusable when reinstalling. I suspect junkyard seals would also be unusable. Does anyone do anything or worry about the seal which must be to keep out air and moisture?

Scott, fwiw, I simply disregard them when they're mangled. I'm sure you could use a rubber washer, seal, o-ring, hose washer or even a smear of silicone caulk (which would have to be cleaned/reapplied each time), but I try not to sweat the small stuff, lol.
