Rear Brake Line Part Number?

168 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  JonnyBlaze
Hello. I picked up a 2013 Taurus Intercepter on Municibid yesterday and the right rear brake caliper was stuck. So I went to replace the caliper and I couldn't get the hose separated from the hard line. It backed out a half inch or so and just spun and spun. I was able to remove the hose from the old caliper and reinstall it but when I tightened down the line to the hose it leaks now. I have it as tight as it will go but not sealing. So I figure I have 2 options, cut the line and install a new fitting or replace the line. I don't know where that line goes or whats involved in replacing it. Anyone know? I can't find a part number.

Yea, I had the same exact problem and it took quite some time and effort to separate it. Driver side came out fine, pass, not so much). What I ended up doing was wedging a larger flat wrench in the space you see the threads thru and applying upward pressure on the fitting (don't overdo it) and also pushing the hardline itself towards the body so it stays straight (yes I have 3 hands). The problem is that the hardline fitting is tapered and what happens is, it tilts as you undo it resulting in threads engaging/disengaging and you just basically spin things in place. I did get mine out with a lot of pain and swearing so it is at least possible.

Putting things back in, you have to make sure the fitting goes in perfectly straight (it' doesn't want to and from certain angles looks right when it isn't, so be sure), and again you have to apply pressure to the hardline itself to make sure it is always dead straight going in. Slow and steady process. Otherwise, it will be tightened crooked and you'll either mess up the threads, it will leak, or both.

Thanks. I already ordered that hose. I need the line going into it in case it's messed up which it probably is.

Might not be, I'd still try to undo it at least to the point that it is loose-ish and then retighten it straight. At this point you've nothing to lose.

I have another issue maybe you can help with. I'm going to start another thread soon about it if I can't figure it out. When driving down the road, cruising speed, the car will randomly jerk left or right like I hit a rut in the road or a hard gust of wind hit me. Maybe while trans us upshifting? Only driven it a couple times now as I just bought it. The suspension feels tight. No knocking, clunking, or anything. It's awd. I do have an appt next Tuesday for the rear suspension recall.

Also how do I reset the tpms? Thanks.
