I know this is a Taurus forum but the spiritual predecessor to the '86 Taurus was the '82 Sierra in England. A big fan following with those cars as well.

There is also an apparent fascination with the grey-grille '82-83 Sierras, as most were body-colored. I think it's a similar issue to the base Taurus in '86 that never came with the black grille with slats (NOT the '90 or '91 police version). The MT5 was our equivalent to these rare Sierras, and could have the black window surrounds like a GL or body-colored window surrounds (a la '89 SHO).

Unlike the MT5 and other Tauruses, the Sierras had engines from 1.2 to 1.6 liters, including diesels. The 1.2 liter base engine had 60 hp or something like that. The biggest engine was a 2.3 liter I4.

The US version of the Sierra was actually a Merkur XR4TI (1985-1989) - Which basically was a Ford Sierra XR4i but was a 2.3 turbo which the XR4i was a 2.9i if I recall
