Anybody have success with this? I have a 2005 Taurus 3.0 ohv with a crapped out trans, I plan on replacing it with a used unit. I have no hoist available and really dont feel like crawling around on the ground for an extended period of time. I figured I could pull the wiper cowel, pull the pass axle and lift the assembly out with the engine higher than the trans. Then popping the ds axle out when close. Reverse for install.

I have replaced numerous engines/transmissions in GM cars (Impalas/Bonneville/Grand Prix) by pulling the engine/trans assembly as a unit and then splitting them apart on the ground once out. I have gotten so good at this I can do an entire job in under 6 hours. Possibly the same on a Taurus?

Yes, the OHV "Vulcan" engine is removable from the top. It will take longer than 6 hours, considering it's a new operation for you.
