Hey Guys. Just as I roll over 170,000 miles on my '98 Taurus I'm experiencing a problem. My power steering "groans". This is especially evident when I'm just turning the wheel and not moving. I checked the fluid and its at the appropriate level. Any ideas?

Easy to do.

Get one gallon of cheat ATX fluid from Wal-Mart, then two quarts of Wal-mart universal synthetic ATX fluid. You will also need 4' of 3/16" ID clear vinyl hose.

Before you start take a drop of the old fluid and the new fluid and place 2" apart on a white paper towel. This is your dirt base. :)

Then siphon out all the old with the hose. The refill with the cheap stuff. Do this every two weeks or sooner when a test with the napkin shows the fluid is dirty again. The new fluid will clean out the old gunk fairly quickly.

Doe this until all the cheap gallon stuff is used. Then start using the synthetic ATX fluid. do this until you have used all 2 quarts and are full.
