Got a 2001 Taurus SE with 220,000 miles on it, 3.0 push rod engine. I have not used it much the past 2 years so it mostly just sits, I started it in January and it started and ran fine. Went to start it again in April and the battery is completely dead. So I later find that I have a power drain on the system of about .12 amps. When I pull fuse #16 (GEM/BCM module) under the dash the drain goes down to .05, which is normal. Also, when pulling the 60 amp fuse under the hood, the one that is for "ignition" the drain goes down to .05 also. So yesterday I was out working on this car and I took the BCM/GEM module out to inspect and then I put it back in and I go to try the power windows and the one on the drivers side goes down, and will not go back up again. Also, the car will not go into drive and the airbag light, ABS light and parking brake light are all on. The car will start and run but will not go into gear and the window will not go up. Is this a bad BCM/GEM module? The other day I noticed that after a hard rain that the floor on the drivers side is wet, but nothing near the fuse panel looked to have been in contact with water though.

Are you flipping the door latches closed to make the car think the doors are shut and waiting 40 minutes for the vehicle to enter 'sleep mode' before testing?
Would tend to think you may have a bad ground or connection accountable for the problems since reinstalling the GEM

So thats how to turn off the courtesy light..haha I had to pull the fuse to disable that, Im used to trucks I was looking for a switch on the outside but I guess its in the door latch.

I did not wait 40 minutes for it to go into sleep mode, I will try that. What bad grounds should I be looking for? I guess I could start with the battery ground and work from there?

My one 2001 had wet driver side floors and after I fixed the holes in the floor from rust it collected 2 inches after a rain. I traced it down and it was leaking right above the GEM module. I didn't have a power draw issue but Jag is right on with waiting until sleep mode.

Well to know, for working on a car with the doors open, use a Philips screw driver and flip the latch on the door and the Bull now sees the door is closed. Just have to remember to flip it back when you are done and want to close the door. It will remind you if you forget and try to close the door.

Ok I have an update, I got the window to go up, and all of them work now, all I did was pull the fuse box and GEM module out, and tighten the connection for the circuit breaker for the windows. But now the parasitic drain is a little worse, this time I think something in the GEM module has the drain. I removed ALL of the relays from the fuse panel, and when I connect my multimeter for the parasitic draw test, there is a clicking sound coming from the fuse panel even though all the relays are out. Is there a relay inside the GEM module?

Have you done a parasitic draw test using the voltage drop method along the fuses? Should be pretty easy to check if you already suspect a module.
