I was driving my grandma's Taurus and when I got up to 50ish mph the car bucked like it hit the rev limiter.
Any idea what it could be?
The car was in Normal drive.

any check engine light on? Which V6? the cast iron OHV Vulcan or the aluminum 24V DOHC Duratec (badges on fenders)?

So the 8th character in the VIN is a letter 's' ?

sounds like cat convertors lol I'd try disconnecting the front oxygen sensors from the exhaust pipe and seeing if it performs better...

So the car just falls on its face when it hits 50? Does it struggle to get up to 50? How does it behave at WOT versus cruising up to 50?

This does NOT sound to me like a transmission issue but an ignition issue or possibly a vacuum or fuel issue. It wont upshift because you are applying heavier throttle to maintain 50 mph due to the lack of power from the miss.
