That part is the flex pipe that connects your exhaust monifolds to the pipe that leads to your catalytic converter, and ultimately, your muffler. Are you sure you have a hole in it? I thought I did, but when I took it to Midas, they put it up on the rack and couldn't find anything...I just ask because I don't want to see anyone spend money on something that isn't there...

well.. i think it does! lol when my roommate holds the exhaust pipe closed i can see the exhaust coming out of the steel mesh there... and of course the large droning noise that accompanies gets much quiter when i close the true exhaust =/

BUT... every damn parts store i go to cant find that part!! i keep getting a long pipe bent upwards with a resonator attached to it.. nothing with the steel mesh on it =/

I would call Midas or Meineke to ask them if they have the part in stock. If not, they would be able to order it. If they can't order it, take it to a FoMoCo dealership, it doesn't matter if it's a Ford or Mercury dealership. You might have a hole in it, but remember, that mesh is there so that when the your engine torques under throttle, the exhaust doesn't get ripped off its mounts. Since it is comprised of that mesh material, there might be some exhaust being released, but I can't imagine it being that much. If it really is a lot, take it to a muffler shop and have them take a look at it. They would be able to tell you better than I would about leakage. Also, go somewhere that you trust, so you don't get screwed (ie-don't take it to Pep Boys)...

Yes, take it to a muffler shop - unless you are capable of welding the new flex pipe in place, you'll have to take it to the shop to get it installed anyway.

The mesh on my flex pipe tore as well. I simply replaced it at the same time I removed my resonator. The mesh only encloses a flexable pipe which channels the exhaust, so it the mesh is torn you may or may not have a leak. I found pulling the resonator at the same time made things much easier to put back in place
