Pics: Sable Lights In My Gen 4

2484 Views 19 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Doc
I had posted night time pics of this mod somewhere in this forum but now I can't find them. <_<

Anyway, someone had asked how bright these looked during the day. "Are they as bright as the orange GM daytime lights" was the question if I remember correctly.

So here is a daytime pic of my gen 3 Sable turn signals in my gen 4 grill. Enjoy!

P.S. What do ya think?

Looks kinda out of place in my opinion.

I don't know what to think... Maybe if it was a different color? Why did you decide to put those lights in your grill?
I think it's nice spin to the regular looking Gen4's. I like it. Too bad they weren't clear. I think it would look even better if you had clear corners and clear day time running head lights. That would look sweet!
Well..I wanted them because it looks like the...well, let me see, Ford sells around 350,000 Tauri a year...this car has been out since 2000, it's now 2004...so 350,000 x 4...I didn't want it to look like the other 1.4 Million Gen 4's out there on the road.

Now that I posted them during the day only one person likes them. When I posted the night time pics (which I found: http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=599 ) everyone said they looked nice. <_<

Anyway: what other colors would you suggest? I think the amber looks neat. White looks almost yellow compared to the silverstars...so what else?

What you like is all it should really matter.

At least it's not a 4' foot aluminum wing that you added. lol!
Wow, I like it!

Looks like a clean, factroy install. Good Job, and the lights are nice and bright. I think you just wanted a newer factory look and not aftermarket. This is why it is the bright amber color.

personally........I LOVE IT!! your car is unique compared to the others, good job!!
Yes, it's definitely unique. I said I don't know what to think because it's just indifferent to me. What type of bulbs are in those?
It looks nice, and a good install

btw, when you changed your amber lights to white, did it help the visiability on the road at all?

It is not a bad placement, but with it being behind the grille and not on the outer edges it looks like you jsut stuck them there. I also had fog lights in the grille of my taurus, but they were black and you couldnt really see them unless you really looked.
Red is illegal in California. You should know that, your a CA guy arent you? No red or blue is allowed in CA.

You can't see these during the day when the car is off and the lights are off. But with them on, yeah, they are visible.

No, the white lights don't improve visibility. They are the same intensity as the amber bulbs. Try driving down the road with your parking lights on. Then imagine that light white. Thats how it looks.

Thanks for the compliments.

I had no clue red was illegal. I was only told, and read about blue lights being illegal. I can't possibly imagine red being illegal for running lights. For headlights, possibly so, but I'd be amazed if it was illegal.
Red is definitely illegal in the front. As far as I know only white and yellow or shades of the two are legal in the front in all 50 states.

You could try some 50W bulbs. These light up brightly. Be sure to upgrade the wiring though.
According to the California code book, no car shall have a red light, standing or otherwise, in the front of their vehicle. Same for blue. Blue, however, is illegal ANYWHERE on the car, front, side, or back. Red may be used on the back of vehicles only.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

Yeah, I read that too in the California code section on their gov website. I have the clear lights on my front signals, but i have yellow light bulbs.

What gets me, is they sell the blue and green colored turn signal lights in all the auto part stores. Why is that? They don't care that it's illegal? Go figure.

I like the idea, but not too sure if those particular shapes work best. As said previously, it's really what you like.

Something to consider may be going to a motorcycle shop and looking at the lights they sell. I'm talking about the small ones you can use if you want to relocate your bike's blinkers. They have clear, red and amber in a variety of shapes, sizes and mounting options. Leave em amber and connect to the blinker circuit or leave em clear and connect to the parking lights.

Those don't look bad at all. Perhaps if they were horizontal instead of vertical?
