I just had a leak repaired on my 98 Duratec, and the price was rediculous.
The gasket is a metal and rubber one, and it was falling apart. (145,000 miles)
New gasket was $80, and 3.5 hours of labour. Does any one out there know what the flat rate manuals say for labour on an oil pan gasket change? I know its a pain to get at, but 3.5 hours seems excessive.

Yeah, the shop I went to told me to not even bother replacing the gasket, just to keep an eye on the oil level.

I'm not sure about 3.5 hours, but I do know it's a PITA. You have to remove the y-pipe, remove some bolts in the transmission, then remove the 18 or so bolts holding the pan up.

I helped my friend change his oil pan gasket in his blazer in his driveway and it took us all night.
