No turn signal shut off

On my 1989, a plastic cam broke off because I pushed the turn signal (multifunction switch) stalk hard just when it was supposed to get pushed by the part that should cancel the turn signal. Cracked and broke. Would not cancel the turn signal in one direction.
Had to replace the multifunction switch. Was not very hard on the '89.

Wow, never heard of that problem on a Ford. GM's on the other hand... terribly common on those, and most of the time it was the left hand one??
