I have 2001 sable, and when I depress gas pedal car doesn't speed up engine rpm's revs up but car won't pick up speed. And I heard a whistling sound from the engine compartment when depressing gas pedal. Any help would be appreciated this car is nickle and dime-en me,thanks.

Is this while the car is moving, or from a standstill? The whistle may be a vacuum leak.

sounds like your trans is slipping. If so you will probably need a new one.

car is moving about 10-15 miles than when you push gas petal to floor just revs no speed?

Your transmission pump sounds like it's toast.

Definitely the transmission. If it wasn't serviced and looked after intently, these transmissions can grenade. Sometimes you get the lucky ones that take the abuse.. but 7 of 10 times the trans fails when you dont change the fluid and filter.

Check the color and smell of your fluid......what I can best describe to you is, it should smell like fresh hydraulic fluid... it should never smell pungent and burnt. What could be best described as a UH-60 sitting in a hanger. If it does you got problems.
