Hello I have never been a ford person but I have a 2006 ford Taurus SEL that I aqquired. I let the car sit in my driveway for 1.5 years. My Hyundai blew the engine a few months ago so I started driving the Taurus. I put new tires on it and had all the fluids changed. I was really surprised that when I gave it a jump it started right up. The car has 61,000 miles on it. The paint on the driver side is pealing but the inside is in mint condition. It ran rough at first but now drives GREAT!!! I am really amazed by this car. My question is, What if anything besides the tires and fluid change should I do to this car to be safe? I commute 92 miles each way to work and want to make sure to head any problems off before they happen. I have mostly owned imports but I love the way this car rides!!!

Hello and welcome to the club. You shouldn't find any major problems coming up if the regular maintenance had been kept up. The mileage is low, so your transmission should be fine. The cam synch has been known to wear quickly, mine did.
One of the things that has made all of us here love of Taurus's is that they are so strong and reliable. Welcome to Ford Nation. :)
