New Sound For New Bull

Hello all. I just got my Taurus ('99 Graphite Blue w/ Duractec) a few days ago, and I'm new to these forums, so go easy on me if I ask a dumb question

Anyway, onto my topic. I'm looking into putting a new stereo into the car because the one I have now is completely stock. If I've done my research correctly, the car should have 6x8's all around. Starting at the CD player, I'm gonna go with the Pioneer DEH-7600MP. I have the 7400MP in my Mustang right now, and I love it. For the speakers, I'm planning on Infinity Kappa 6x8's in the rear, but the fronts I'm not sure of. I'm thinking of getting an Infinity Kappa Component set, but I don't know if I should get 6x8's or 6.5's. Would there be any noticeable difference between them, and which would you recommend? Let me know what you all think of my plan so far and please feel free to offer any other suggestions. Thanks.

Well, for starters, make sure you have the knobs for the heat controls. If you have digital climate controls, you cant add an aftermarket head unit with an adapter.

(some would argue with me on this point, it is possible, but not worth the aggravation or the $$)

If you do have the knobs, you need to get an adapter for the heat controls. Check the classifieds on this site, or search ebay or other places on the web.

A full kit with wiring harness will run you about 70 bucks.

Ahhhh. Thank you. I forgot about that adapter for the climate controls. $70 for an install kit seems kinda steep to me. Figuring that a wiring harness is about $10, do the climate control adapters really cost $60? or are there other parts included in a kit that I'm not aware I need (antenna adapter or something)? Those adapters don't seem like they'd be worth $60 to me, but maybe they're more complex than I'm understanding them to be.
The kit includes the wire harness, antenna adaptor and the mounting kit all in one bag.
OK, so I should just go with one of those kits that gives me everything. But what about the front speakers? Would it be better to go with 6.5 or 6x8 components, or is there no noticeable difference? Thanks.
the 6X8's will fit in the factory location without modification, so I would go with those. Plus they are a little bigger than 6.5's so they may play a bit louder/lower.
Buy the 6x8/5x7's and then buy tweeters for your mirror sales. You could disable the tweeters on the 6x8/5x7's. If I remember right the tweeters on the Kappa's might be removable...correct me if I'm wrong.
From my experience the 6x8's will be better than any componet unless you are going to use an amplifier on the front stage. Head unit power is usually not enough to run a set of componets efficiently, and you can blow a speaker by under powering it. The 6X8's will be more cost effective too if you are just looking to make a mild upgrade.
Thanks guys, I'll probly just buy 6x8 Kappas all around and maybe run some tweeters if I think I need them. I don't really wanna spend money on an amp for the speakers cuz I plan on getting subs eventually, and I'll need some money for an amp for those. Thanks again.
