late in the fall bought my 2nd 5-speed '89 sho, this one with 82500 original miles. (the first was bought new, and kept until 2004.)
my most recent purchase never saw winter snow or salt. it was well-cared-for by a proud owner. body is exceptionally clean, straight and rust-free. everything except radio, emergency brake, (and possibly a/c - which i do not intend to use) is in great working order.
when i take it out of winter storage in the coming spring, i want to address all maintenance issues that may have been overlooked to date. i do not have a log of maintenance done. i do know from the vin that all recall matters have been addressed. my question is - what are the things i should give attention to as preventative maintenance, instead of waiting for a problem to arise.
my list so far is: timing belt, accessory belts, valve lashing, radiator flush and fill, and possibly repacking of wheel bearings.
do you want to say anything about my list? would you add anything to the list? thanks!

I would add water pump, crank sensor, coolant cap, plugs and wires to the list.
If they haven't already been done cam and crank seals are usually weeping by that point and worth doing.

I replaced the EGR valve on my '94 last summer with only 50k original miles. I was surprised to find that not only was it dirty with carbon, but the EGR port into the intake manifold was also partially clogged (no CEL illuminated, no codes pending). I cleaned it with a whole can of acetone-based carburetor clearer.

Spark plugs are also critical, as jag1959 points out. Mine were carbonized. Don't forget to gap them properly. Even though you are in a warm climate, short trips and a lack of Tier One gasoline can cause carbon buildup. You can check the plug wires with an ohm meter (if each is below 30k, they're good).

If you do find carbon on your plugs or piston crowns, you probably have it on your intake valves as well. Add a few consecutive tankfuls of PEA-based cleaner through your gas (Techron, Gumout All-in-One, or some other popular ones). I won't even mention catalytic converter cleaner, because I always get criticized on the forum for doing so.

A few other things to consider. The PCV valve and fuel filter is missing from your list, as is a wheel alignment. If the brake fluid in the reservoir is filthy black, you might replace the brake master cylinder. Also check the condition of the vacuum lines, especially around the PCV valve and the one to the fuel canister purge valve. Jag1959 mentions a coolant cap -- I would suggest Motorcraft because I had problems with generics.

thanks to jag1959 and techsurfer for your careful and thorough replies! if anyone else reading has any thoughts, please pass them on. this is a great 27-year-old car, and i want to pass it on SOME DAY in great condition.

I would would also inspect all of the brake system soft lines and flush and replace the brake fluid. Over time the fluid tends to absorb moisture and the lines can get soft and expand when the brakes are applied.

I figure 2-3 years bk fluid should be flushed. Dark is bad. Imagine 10 years?

I like to suck the fluid out of the MC every fall and refill. Takes maybe 10 minutes per car.
