Hey fellow TCCA'ers, how's it going? Really? That's good. Me too.. Anyways.. here's the deal. My dad and I are looking around for a vehicle.. something insurance wouldn't be too crazy on, looking to spend $6000-7000 on something. At first, I was thinking truck.. then the insurance company reminded me I am young and male... ouch.. So.. I found this little thing... I saw it and started to drool... Think it's a good deal? The mileage is up there, but the car should be good for quite a bit more. Very nice ride though. We haven't had many complaints about Gen 4's. Just try to make sure maintenance has been done on the car such as radiator flushes, tranny fluid changes, regular oil changes, the basics. Other than that, I hope you get it. I would keep bringing up the mileage and try to get them down to about 6k.

Yeah.... definitely. Who tries to buy a car for the price the dealer gives them? I realize the mileage is up there, but.. from my experience, and my family's experience, if you take care of your vehicle, it'll take care of you. Find the recalls, take care of those if any (on any vehicle) then treat it great. I'm still getting well over 20 mpg in town with my '95 Vulcan. I just take care of 'er and change the oil every 3000k, sometimes sooner, and check fluids, etc. religiously.

Yep, i agree - maintenance is the key to any car. I just love it when people drive a car until stuff starts breaking and they've never done any maintenance and say it's a POS.

If you buy the 00 sel, make sure to get the ecu update otherwise the engine can backfire and blow up the intake manifold.

Definately a nice ride. If you don't mind, let us know what you can get them down to. I want to know how bad of a deal I got on my SE. I paid $7k and then got $1500 trade-in value on a car not even worth $300. ;D That's the only slack he would cut me, really. It had about 85k miles when I bought it, and had a few scratches from luggage removal so often (it was a fleet car), but other than that it was in awesome condition.

Insurance isn't /that/ high on a truck, is it? I mean, not unless you get one with a huge engine... Most of my buddies' trucks are much slower than anything sitting in my driveway (Escort, Saturn SC2, Taurus, F-150...)... I woulda thought insurance would be lower on something slower and tougher. :blink:

Cost of repair when damaged is one of the big factors in rating insurance, along with power. Exposure, past history of same type or make vehicle and potential for damage to other vehicles is also considered.
