Hey guys, a member of Neons Online has pm'ed me with a question. It's a very interesting one at that. I'm posting it for him here, in hopes that someone can spread some light on this. I believe what the guy told his friend is utterly wrong. But lets see what you guys think!

Got a question for you or maybe you could find out for me.  My friend has an 01 or 02(can't remember) taurus, I love it, it's got every damn toy you could think of, at any rate someone who is supposed to be mechanically smart  told her to not drive above 80mph because something in the tranny would wear out faster cuz supposedly the taurus was made for cruising speeds and not faster speeds.  I told her that she has nothing to worry about and that the guy is full of  ooh: but I told her that I would try and find something out, so I was wondering if maybe you or someone from TCCA would know something about it.  She forgot the part the guy said would give out, but it had something to do w/ the tranny.  Any thing you could give me would be great.

wtf??? well, if you want to get technical, your car would probably last longer (parts wise) if you always drove it at 30mph....or, better yet, you never drove it, except to turn it on every once in a while to keep the fluids moving a little

i wonder if that dude just heard somewhere about our horrible trannys and decided to make up some BS about it or something

The G4 trannies have no issues that I know of. The old AX4S (also known as the AXODE) had problems with an Aluminum piston that would wear. The new AX4N that was introduced in limited numbers in the G3's (1996 - 1999) and used exclusively in the G4's (2000-current) uses a steel piston that is much stronger. The tranny can still overheat and burn the fluid, but a stacked-plate auxiallary radiator will solve that problem.

They are full of crap. On long trips I usually average 85-90 MPH for 5+ hours a lot of times. I've driven my car over 30k miles in the last year and never had an issue. *knocks on wood*

:rofl: :rofl: :rofl: Riiiiiiiight. What year of IROC does this guy drive, or is the NAWZ leaking up through his Civic hatch giving him blurry vision?
