The car is my old '95 3.8. This weekend we replaced all the lifters, put it back together and there is still the noise that prompted us to replace the lifters. One lifter was replaced about a month ago, and there was another failed one so they were all replaced while the motor was apart. It sounds like the noise an engine makes when it diesels.

I would greatly appreciate if someone with a good ear for diagnosing problems could PM me with a phone number so I can figure out what is wrong before any more more work is done.

did you adjust them properly? lifters have to be tightened while the engine is completely cold and you have to have a certain tool (can't remember what its called) to adjust them.

at least, that's how it was on my honda accord. i'd think they'd all be pretty much the same.

I followed the repair manual. They have a series of torquing and losening the bolts for the rockers and the head itself ( which didn't have to off but did ). But it sounds like more than tapping valves.
