My hose went, I came out from the parking lot yesterday and all my coolant was all over the parking lot. I tried with my dad for about 3 hours and we couldn't get the one clamp off. So I had to take her to the dealership. $650 later for a rubber and metal hose. But I must say I still love her even if she breaks my bank.

haha i wish, they gave her a wash but thats about it.
It was $325 for the hose and then 2 and a half hours labour. Thats what happens when you live in Canada, they had the hose in stock atleast.

FWIW, i got a good hose at the wreckers just last week. While doing some work on my car, i noticed that metal tube was very rusty, tho not leaking yet. Since i had a bunch of parts off doing the work, i figured it was best to replace it then, and my cost (keep in mind i work at the dealership) was $220 CDN. I also needed the vent hose from the reservoir to the metal coolant line across the front of the engine. That stupid lil foot long chunk of rubber was $80 my cost. I went to the wrecking yard and got both in very good shape, along with a bunch of other stuff, for $40. I'd try there before pay all that money. Or, as others have said, see if you can't just get a custom piece of metal tubing made up, and just put the rubber ends on it. I was thinking about that myself before i lucked into the replacement part.

yea this is part that I have trying to find also.Dealer told me the part is being discontinued, so soon even the dealer will not be able to get these. I ended up coating the pipe in high temp epoxy resin and then painting it with chassis black. At this point in time I hope it holds.

Crap, I took a look and mine looks like its going to spew at any moment, and theres some moisture on the actual line and a little under it :noes: :noes: I hope thats just from driving in last nights rain.

I suppose duct tape isn't a viable option either.......

What good is coating the outside doing to do you if its rusting from the inside out?
[/b]

He said in his first post that it rusted from the outside in.

That is what happens to that particular pipe

Unless you run straight water this pipe always rusts outside in. Copper is a question mark with this motor. Stainless would be perfect. Gates sells the rubber ends by themselves for about $12, but no metal. You guys in the south could make money by getting these out of yards and reselling them. I tried to talk to several Carolina yards about this part. The answer was always - "I'm not doing that much work for a $5 part". When I offered $50 for a good one they hung up on me. These guys in the yards do not believe you a serious. I can buy an excellent duratec motor here locally for this car for $300, with a good cooling tube, but he will not sell the tube off of the motor. if I was sure that enough people would buy them I could get a few dozen made in stainless for a couple of bucks each. Add the rubber part and you are set for life.

Local used car dealer just had 2 cars with bad tubes. One guy kept driving and fried the motor.

Same thing failed on mine!!!
Ford asked $180 for the steel pipe with 2 permanentl y attached rubber hoses!
and 15% off that price was the best deal I could get, that really sucks, cause those pipes shouldnt cost more than $20 anyway. it's also a pain to replace.

I sense a group buy might be in order.
Throw some rubber tubing on the ends for an exact replacement and you would make a few happy bull owners, one of them would be me for sure.

Ever since i got this replaced my A/C hasn't been working. I took a look the other day and i saw a red plug hanging near the hose they replaced. I coudn't reach it with my hand so I jacked it up and pluged it back in and magic. You would think when i drop $650 for a hose theyd do the job right. Makes me wonder, is the Tech just an ass and forgot or did he do this on purpose so I'd come back and get the AC fixed? I was gonna go the rest of the summer without air cause I figured it bit the dust, and really all it was was this plug.
I can't wait for Fords customer satisfaction survey to come! :D

Ok, that's it- I'm gonna go wipe the metal part of the hose on my 2004 with WD40 tomorrow!!!! Maybe I'll spray the underside of the car too!!!!! Now- should I use tranny fluid? hmm... that'll kick rust out of the bar! Isn't that an old classic car trick?

Had my 98 in to replace the a/c compressor. My lower hose looked rusty so I bead blasted it and DAMN that baby was almost gone! Took a while to braze in the holes, then I coated it with extend rust paint. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone with a duratec to take measures to keep this pipe in good shape.

I have some rust converter that is supposed to turn it into a black tough barrier. Used it up in the strut towers. The bubbles will scrape off and seems to be pretty solid metal under. Doesn't look like much rusted away. Amazing how much expansion steel has under certain rust conditions.
