All you need to do is remove the cylinder head. You can slide the complete pump off after you have removed all the bolts holding the cylinder head on. At least that's how the 3.0 works. I have never had to do a 3.8.

To answer the original question: Yes, you have to remove the pulley to remove the pump. At least one of the bolts that holds the pump on the head is blocked by the pulley. Not a difficult task if you have the proper tool (pulley remover/installer).

thanks, went out and bought a puller installer today job is coming along fine cheap ass taurus bombs rule have owned 6 total purchase price has been $1290.00 most expensive $500.00 cheapest got paid $110.00 to tow away minor electric prob drove for 5yrs 120,000 mi. what a bargain
