ive heard that you can clean the mass air flow sensor, but what do you clean it with and how? any comment would be appreciated. thank you

lightly spray it with electrical contact cleaner. do not use carbeurator cleaner or anything like that. then let it dry. Do not touch the sensor. The wires are extremely fragile.

what about cleaning the metal air duct the sensor is on?

The sensor housing shouldn't get dirty really. But use the same contact cleaner and a rag. A little dust on the housing won't hurt a thing. The contact cleaner will break up ant grease.

On older cars, the connector to the MAF can also cause problems (there's been a discussion over on the SHO lists about this the last few days). Also clean the MAF connector, and make sure that it is tight.
