Manual Trunk Lock

After reading through and interesting thread on the V8 list I though I would ask the question, there have been many reports that over a long period of time, the trunk lock, which is usually not used (I almost never use mine) freezes, and the key will work everwhere in the car except the manual trunk release. I wonder if this is just a Gen III problem, or maybe just a V8SHO problem? I think it would be neat to see the proportions, does it work on your car?

It works in the 98 which lacks keyless entry so it is either use the key or the little button in the car. On the 99 which has the keyless and therefore the key is used less, I was still able to open it with the key
Mine is messed up. The button in the car works fine, but not using the key manually. If I bang the spot right above the lock with my fist though sometimes it will work.
i dont think ive ever used it on the 99 since its on the remote. i usually use the key on the 95, since i dont have a botton on my alarm remote. it was another $50 and my dad didnt think we needed it
I always thought i had the wrong key or the trunk was replaced prior to me owning it...now I'm curious...
I'm always running the battery down on my remote, so I get to try the trunk several times per year. I can't resist the compulsion to start pressing the unlock button from half way accross the parking lot

When I had to manually un-lock the Explorer once when the remote died, I found the lock "frozen" up from un-use. I had to turn that key REALLY hard to get it to open. Stupid me for forgetting to keep some graphite with me...
Mine manual lock works sometimes. Usually I use the button on the dash or the button on the remote, but ocassionally when I use the key, it requires some jiggling to get it to work.
spray some wd40 in the lock and turn the key a couple of times. this should do the trick
should my '96 LX have a seperate trunk key? If it does the dealer didnt have one....*grumble
