This is the only board on which I can display pride in my Taurus and not get mocked. Just made the mistake of trying it elsewhere and got LOL'd into oblivion. Fuckers.

It's okay, we know what we've got; an underestimated, unappreciated vehicle that's surprisingly fun to drive, cheap to buy used, cheap to maintain, cheap to repair, solid on fuel economy and nearly free to insure. B)

Now you can understand the feeling of PRIDE I get when I take the wagon to shows, and end up getting a trophy when some of the "classics" or "muscle cars" go home empty handed. :D

I know the feeling. I get shunned and mocked on the local car forum out here in Minot because I've modded and auto cross a Taurus instead of a Civic, 240SX, or a WRX/STi Impreza.

For the reasons above most Ford's are pretty good cars. My 1st Ford was a '93 Escort. That car had damn cold A/C - running R12 at the time. I bought the Escort and was very happy with it. Hence, this got me motivated to buy my Sable. For the most part I like the cosmetics more on a Mercury's than the Ford's. An example of this is the square rear window on my '97 versus the oval on the Ford. You'll note on the 4th Gen Taurus they went with the square window here.

Monsoon.

I just don't understand why Ford has such amazing vehicles, strong, dependable, and faster then most other POS's like Honda's and all, yet so many people buy the latter.

I laugh that us Taurus owners shun the Vulcan engine as being the slowest of them all, yet compared to other vehicles at the same level it's still on a whole other league in reliability and yes, performance.

Sure they can make fun of our sedan that won our hearts, but we have something they will never have. A masterpiece in engineering, simplicity, performance, and functionality. We can load up a party of six, cram a lot of crap in our trunks, race a ricer and win, or just get to point A to point B everyday, and still pass 300k on the odo. We got it all, they have only one of those.

I've owned 4 Fords since 1988, my latest is a 2010 Fusion Hybrid, & I still own a '93 wagon which I would not part with for anything. Ford seems to be eating the competition's lunch these days. People are catching on to its quality. My daughter is a rally driver, and I see plenty of Focuses and Fiestas at these events.

I was the same initially, but my opinion has since become more complicated.

The front end on the Gen 3.5 Taurus is my favorite I think (the bar through the grill does it) but the Gen3 Sable follows a close second. Though the ass on the Gen3 Sable wins hands down. As far as Gen4... the Sable is just odd looking all around - the ass is particularly weird in how its lines kind of meander into taillights that look confused as to which vehicle they actually want to belong on.

I was looking for a nice Gen3 Sable initially, it's probably the best combination of design cues of any Taurus/Sable (especially with a spoiler), but I couldn't find one in decent shape from somebody who didn't sound over the phone like they'd kidnap me after a test drive. Tough luck I guess.

My opinion is that people are sheep and follow the herd. People are under the assumption that "imports are more reliable than domestics" and the sheeple follow. I dont buy into it. I've had almost 30 cars in my 16+ year driving history and 3 of them were imports(2 toyota tacoma's and a 86 toyota mr2). THAT'S IT! All others were domestics

when I had my 92 Taurus in 1998 I was laughed at by people(before online forums) because I did some work to it. I'm not the person to get a 'me too' car and fix it. Hell look at my current car, a 4.6L 96 Tbird. People say, why dont you just get a mustang, my reply......... because I dont WANT a mustang. I love the looks of the Tbird, and it's different which makes it a car I like!

As far as reliability........ a car is ONLY as reliable as the service and maintenance history of the vehicle. I laugh at people when they say that ford is pathetic and unreliable. My tbird has 164K on all the original motor/trans and it's still kicking strong......... I had a 88 Lincoln towncar that had 427K........ YES that's FOUR HUNDRED TWENTY SEVEN THOUSAND DOCUMENTED MILES on it when I got rid of it and that was on the original motor and one replacement trans. That thing ran and shifted like the day it came from the factory. There is a reason that cops, taxi companys, and limo services use these vehicles, rather than a honda, toyota or what have you.

KEEP IT DOMESTIC!

I don't understand why some people make fun of other people's cars either. This guy at my work makes fun of my Taurus, and yet he has a foreign truck. Of all things!! (and I don't mean to offend anyone, I just don't care for Japanese trucks.) Another time he saw me looking at the 2013 Taurus SHO and made fun of it calling it an old person's car and asked me if I was going to marry someone who was over 70. Obviously he doesn't know that the 2013 SHO will kick his trucks a**!!
