My 2008 Limited has done this 3 times in 3 years. From a stop (stop sign) proceeding slowly (less than 5mph) turning left or right (entering a street from a driveway) the front wheels sound as though they are locking up. The car shudders violently, nose dives, produces a terribly loud grinding sound, and comes to a stop (engine running). At this point I can drive away with no issues. Mileage 51,000. I've owned since new. No damage or mechanical issues to date. Car was purchased 07-2007.
Dealer says there is nothing he can do without a solid failure.
This has my wife (me too) scared to death that the failure will happen and we'll be hit in the rear or broadside.
I've found some information about a TSB 08-26-13.
Does anyone have any additional information that may shed some light on this failure as to cause or fix?
Thanks,
Hoppy

Here's a copy of the TSB for reference:

TSB 08-26-13

01/05/09
HARSH DRIVELINE CLUNK FELT AT LOW SPEED -
BELOW 10 MPH (16 KM/H) - STOP AND GO DRIVING
ON TIP-IN (COULD BE PERCEIVED AS A HARSH 1-2
UPSHIFT OR 2-1 DOWNSHIFT)

FORD:
2008-2009 Taurus X, Taurus, Edge

LINCOLN:
2008-2009 MKX

MERCURY:
2008-2009 Sable

This article supersedes TSB 08-23-16 to update the vehicle lines and issue statement.
ISSUE
Some 2008-2009 Taurus, Taurus X, Sable vehicles built before 10/15/2008, and 2008-2009 Edge and MKX vehicles built before 11/20/2008 may exhibit a harsh driveline clunk at low speed, below 10 MPH (16 Km/h) during stop and go driving on tip-in may be due to a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration. There is a new calibration that will improve the low speed stop and go driving feel.

ACTION
Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using IDS release 57.10 and higher or 58.1 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2008.11 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.

NOTE THIS NEW CALIBRATION WAS IMPLEMENTED IN PRODUCTION ON OCTOBER 15, 2008 FOR THE 2009 MODEL YEAR TAURUS, TAURUS X, SABLE VEHICLES, AND ON NOVEMBER 20, 2008 FOR THE 2009 MODEL YEAR EDGE, MKX VEHICLES, THIS PROCEDURE DOES NOT APPLY TO ANY VEHICLE BUILT AFTER THOSE DATES.

WARRANTY STATUS: Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage
IMPORTANT : Warranty coverage limits/policies are not altered by a TSB. Warranty coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part.

OPERATION DESCRIPTION TIME

Taurus, Taurus X, Sable:
Check For DTCs And
Reprogram The PCM.
Authorization Decal Not

DEALER CODING

CONDITION
BASIC PART NO. CODE
RECAL 04
I doubt anything catastrophic will happen due to it, other than a busted transmission. If you have a TSB for your vehicle, you can print it off and take it to your local dealer and have them explain it to you, the one above says they'll reprogram the PCM, so I would take it into ford and ask them.
