Yesterday I changed oil in my daughters 2004 Taurus, with the 3.0 Vulcan. When I went to remove the oil filter, I put the wrench on it and found I didn't need it. The filter was not tight at all, I spun it off by hand. We've only had the car 2 mons. and the is the first oil change I,ve given her.
We have a 98 Sable with the 3.0 and never had a loose filter. Could it be that whoever changed oil didn't last didn't get it tight, or has there been issues with this in the past.
Someone else I read on another post, said they had this same thing happen to them. I used a Motorcraft filter this time, the filter that came off was not.

You should always be able to remove the filter by hand.

Thank's guys, this one was too loose. Just must have been a bad oil change job. Scarey thing is, she drove it on the interstate a couple of times. I'm just glad I caught it in time.
