97' Taurus GL, Column Shift, Loose gear selector.

Is there any way to tighten it? I can put it in and out of gear but it's pretty loose and wobbly.

Thanks

My 2000 has been like that since I got it at 30K miles and it now has 150K. It's always bothered me so if someone has a fix I'd like to hear it too.

There are bushings on the shift tube (8) that mounts to the actuator housing (2) that wear out. They need to be replaced.

Also check to see that the bolt at the bottom of the shifter assembly (8) is tight. In the car it is just above the brake pedal.

Thanks, I'll check the bolt this afternoon. - How would I go about replacing the bushings? Is it hard job to tackle?
