Lexus Smart Key?

1515 Views 7 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Blue Vulcan
Have you seen the latest Lexus TV ad? The driver walks by his car, the interior lights turn on and then he touches a sensor on the trunk lid and the trunk opens up. Then he walks over to the door and as soon as he grabs the handle another sensor unlocks the doors. He then turns the collar around the ignition switch to start the car, without even inserting a key.

Is there an after market accessory that has some of these functions? Something along the lines of a keyless entry alarm with remote start and a proximity sensor?

If you want it to work exactly like the lexus system, I would image it would not be worth it. You would have to replace all your handles with ones with sensors, and find a system to manage each handle you touch. I wouldn't be suprised if there are any systems which can lock and unlock your car via wireless smartkey.
I haven't seen that, but I have seen the Cadillac version of that. I'm not sure which model it is, buts its on the new convertable ones. Anyone know the model name? Anyhow, the car senses when the keys are within a certain distance from the car and automatically unlock the doors. And once you get inside the car, it automatically starts without even touching anything. That'd be pretty cool.

That would be the XLR
I actually saw one getting unloaded off the truck from the factor at the cadillac dealer sunday. I sat pretty low, just about like the corvette that it is using as its underpinnings. The GM stlying has been pretty lousy the past couple years, but I do want the engine and the struts off of the thing for my bull.
The new C-6 Vette will have that setup as well as i have driven a mercdes sl-500 that uses that same system. It is a very slick system...
I saw them demo this system on the new Vette at the Philly auto show...It's pretty badass, but I for someone who likes to work on the car, I think it would get to be a pain in the rear...you have the negative terminal of the battery unhooked, and you can't open the doors because everything's electronic...PITA!!!

Are you kidding? Cadillac has the BEST styling of EVERY and any non-European car right at the moment. That's not counting the new 'Stang coming out of course...but its awful close. If I could afford any car in the world it would be a new Caddy. I'm surprised the Corvette guys even let Cadillac use their chassis, I mean just look at what happened to the Fiero (when the 'Vette boys finally felt threatened by it).....but then again whose gonna argue with such a seperate class of cars such as Cadillac? :notworthy:
