Hi everyone! :)

A few days ago, my 92 Sable (3.8L) suddenly seems to have lost a lot of power when I step on the gas. It seems like it would be a spark plug issue, but they all seemed to be in good condition when I took the front 3 out. The engine and transmission are both about a year or so old, so I doubt it is anything serious. To better describe my problem, when I hit the gas, the rpm's are quite normal, but the car doesn't accelerate like it usually does and seems like it doesnt want to shift into the next gear. When I rev it really high, the engine makes a noise something like air being let out somewhere that it shouldn't. Almost like a strong hissing. *EDIT* After about 5 minutes of driving, the 'Check Engine' light comes on.*/EDIT* I have taken a couple of pictures that I would like to have opinions on. I have identified two things that I think may be part of the problem. I have an old cracked hose that seems to limit air suction into the small pipe that it is attached to. I plan to replace the hose tomorrow to remedy the problem. However, a small grey plastic block (not sure what it is) seems to have melted on the underside and looks kind of burnt on the inside. Please take a look at the pictures and try to explain to me what those 2 parts do and if they might be the reason for my problems.

Note: Also, I forgot to mention that I painted the car recently and was wondering if maybe some primer/paint/clear may have somehow got into the works. I kind of doubt it, but it occurred to me that it may be an issue. Thanks.

And Clean that engine bay!!!! You're gunna give Jeremy (n2space) the big heartattack!
I clean the bay every 3 months. If it is too dirty I am kind of embarrassed to have a mechanic look at it. The Technician at my dealer service department commented how clean my engine is.

TPS - Throttle Position Sensor

Can't help you much more then that since i don't have a 3.8 and i don't know where the TPS is or what sensor that is of your that exploded on you for that matter. But i'm sure another 3.8 owner will help you out shortly.
