As many of you know I work at an amusement park during the summer. We have a gokart track there. I'm known to be one of the fastest if not the fastest person on the track, either working it, or driving. So beginning of the season they put me there today, third day there in the 5 days we've been back. The layout of the "pit" area, is three lanes for the cars, 4 xars each lane, and a 6 inch tall island with a safety bumpter tire at each end. When the return gate is open, one operator is to stand on an island and direct the cars as to which lane to go into. I was directing the cars this particular run, and this girl came in hot and heavy, fullspeed at 30-35+ mph. I was directing her into the center lane and telling her to slow down. She didn't slow down but she was going right for her lane then steered right to the middle of the island somehow, and came right up and over, airborne, at 30+, and hit me right in the shins, climbing right up my legs scraping up them gouging my legs open, and coming to a stop after shoving me back a few inches and hitting my knee full force(my bad knee I might add). The girl driving walked away with a bruise on her shoulder from the 4 point harness that I had properly adjusted after someone else had failed to do so. If I had not of readjusted it properly, she would have obtained serious head injuries, or worse. I handled the situation well, and ended up having to take control of it so things would get done. In the end I hobbled(not walked) away with the worst of the injuries. So if yer gonna let yer kid ride a go kart, please keep an eye on them, and don't just hand them the money to ride them and say see you in a few. I don't know why she hit the island but she did, and I'm the one who has to pay for it. This is going to seriously hurt me in the long term b/c of my bad knee, I am now never going to be able to ride a bull, or enter a mountain bike race. So again I say please pay attention to your children, if you have them.
