My son and I just rebuilt the lower end of his 93 Taurus 3.8 and it keeps blowing the oil filter seal and dumping oil all over the place. We did not replace the pump. Is the pressure regulation seperate of the oil pump or should we replace the pump all together? Yesterday we changed the oil and filter and it started and ran fine then this morning it started and blew out the seal again

I would remove the idiot light oil pressure sender and temporairly install a mechanical pressure gauge and see what the oil pressure actually is before doing anything else.

make sure there is no old seal stuck to block.
Oh yeah, that happened to me, too recently. I've been changing my own oil for 25 years. I've done it literally hundreds of times. I've never had that happen to me until last month, and yes, it makes one hell of a mess doesn't it? I'd definitely check that first.

Another often overlooked thing is lubricating the new filter's seal prior to installation for a proper seal.
