I am new to the Ford family. I just purchased a 93 Taurus GL, I dont know if the engine is a Vulcan or Yamaha just know its a 3.0. I knew of the problems when I purchased it but it was such a good deal and every thing else works. Now the problem is when I start the car up it idles pretty good then after a few sec's of running the idle starts to go up and down and then the SES light comes on, when I put it in drive it idles fine. I checked the EGR valve and its fine, I dont know what else I can check. I was told by a friend that I could take it to the Autozone and they would check the codes. I just want to get it ready for inspection here in Houston.

wow this happens so much.....is this a factory defect or somthing because i hear so many storys of this and it happens to me sometimes

you have a vulcan engine.

Do you think it would pass inspection with this problem if it runs good otherwise. But the other day I was revving the engine it seemed like the fuel pump was wasnt pumping the fuel fast enough, then after that it revved fine.
