In the Gen3 and Gen4 Taurii, the stock stereo receiver/amplifier is in the trunk and all the speaker wires originate there. The head unit is just buttons, no actual sound production.
The Scoshe kit runs the output from your new aftermarket stereo to the speaker plug in the trunk to make it a plug and play operation.
Now, you could use the kit to run wire to each speaker and bypass the stock wiring all together, there is enough wire in the kit.
I installed the Scosche kit in my '99 and didn't have any problems with it. However, I later ripped it all out and ran all new wire from a 4ch amp.
