I have a 92 Sable with a factory AM/FM Cassette - Premium Sound. I am wanting to listen to my iPod (MP3 player) using an iTrip ( an attachement to the Ipod that allows the iPod music to be broadcast on any FM frequency). I rented a 03 Taurus today and the iPod/iTrip combo worked perfectly. It even picked up a clear signal from 20 feet away. When I use the iPod in my Sable I get quite abit of static. I have already replaced the power antenna as the old one was damaged. Other than getting a new aftermarket deck is there anything I can do to improve the FM reception in my Sable?

Have you tried an aftermarket antenna? or did you replace the power antenna with a stock power antenna?

Also, I think you get better reception with a stationary antenna, and look for something with a coil in it. Like either the whole thing is coiled, or maybe a something wrapped around the main shaft in a coil shape. And remember, you get what you pay for.

My old power antenna wasn't retracting and some punk was kind enough to bend the take the top 1/3 off. I replaced the power mast with one from Ford.

You could try one of those tape adapters. You know, those things that looks like a cassette and has a wire coming from it to plug into a portable music device.

Or you can use aluminum foil and a coat hanger on the antenna.

Tape adapters do nothing but give you a ton of cassette noise.

The best thing to do is get a deck that does not suck so bad that...well...you get hte idea, preferably one with RCA inputs so you can plug the iPod directly into the deck and have no noise and cd quality sound.

The boss at home isn't too impressed that I bought the iPod in the first place. There will probably be a riot if I bought a new deck

. I am going to look into possibly getting a FM modulator for my car (like the ones with the cd changers)
