Why Hello There!

I'm sure nobody remembers me, but I was a member about two years ago, I had a '98 Taurus SE and loved it the same way you would a family member. I became legendary amongst my friends for the level of obsession I had with the Bullfish.

Well, to make a long story short, Thanksgiving 2002 saw me kicked out of the house and the car taken away (The car which was mine to maintain and pay for, but never put in my name) and I lived with my Aunt and Uncle.

I had to drive a 1988 S-10 Blazer with more rust than paint, no drivers side window, no HVAC system to speak of, and bald tires, just to name some of my complaints. I graduated high school, moved downtown, attended two semesters at U of L, dropped out, got a full time job, and my own apartment, but all the while, the Blazer was there, making me depressed...and worrying about dying from a mechanical failure every time I Drove it.

Don't get me wrong, the thing was a tank, letting me drive away from two accidents (neither of which my falut), including one 35mph head-on crash that totalled the other car. The thing always started...but that was about the only thing it did with any regularity.

Well last week I decided I was through with the beast, since winter was coming and it would be pretty cold without heat or a window. I knew there were some massive incentives on 2004 model year cars at my local Ford dealership, so on a whim I drove down there and started looking around.

I was approached by a salesman, and I told him my situation (20 in January, no money for a down payment, no trade-in, but I work full time and have no other debt) and expected to get laughed off the lot, or at least laughed into a '95 Escort or something of the sort.

Instead he waved his arm at the line of Tauri and Sables and said to pick an '04 and we'd see what Ford Credit said.

There were two 04 Sables and one 04 Taurus, so I picked the one with the most options and the nicest color, drove it, and told the man to run my credit.

Three of the most agonizing hours of my life later, I was driving off the lot in a 2004 Mercury Sable LS Premium in Merlot Clearcoat Metallic, and off to the Insurance Agency to get my $300 a month Full Coverage. Jesus.

Considering the MSRP was over $25,000, invoice was over $23,000 and Blue Book Value is around $23,800, the fact I financed $17,700 for it was pretty good, I Think, especially since it is completely loaded with about everything except the six speaker mach audio system...and I can easily add the tweeters later.

It's so awesome to be back in a Taurus/Sable, since that was the car that ignited my love of driving...my friends asked why I didn't get a Taurus, and I had to explain that I did...more or less, anyway.

While it's disapointing to see some of the cost-cutting measures Ford has had to put in since my 1998 model (no dual exhaust, no under-hood or glove box light, no rear speaker grills...) I think the Build Quality is still great, and the amount of car I Was able to get for the money was great too.

Anyway, the first thing I did was put in four 6x8 Infinity Reference speakers and a 10 Disc Sony CD Changer (operated by the factory stereo), and that's really all I feel like doing at the moment, considering just the car is going to cost me over $700 a month (that's including the insurance payment).

So that's really all I have to say for now. I've taken plenty of pictures, of both the car and the audio installation me and a friend went through, and they're all in a gallery here.

Now I guess I'm going to go to work so they don't have to come and take the car back.

Dude! SCORE!

And welcome back, man... it's always good to see people stick with the date they brought to the dance... and don't worry... it's not like we can't give you all sorts of nasty ideas for tuning your girl out, if you haven't already had most of them by now! ;)

You were around before I was ever here, but welcome back! Always glad to hear of people coming back to their obsession. :) My mom just got an 04 Sable LS Premium, too. She LOVES it and it has been excellent so far. B) Good luck with the car and hope to see you around the forums. I'd recommend a FSTB for that baby. ;)

I don't remember the name, but I remember the reference "Bullfish". I've been around since '01 (I think).

Anywho, welcome back, and congrats on the car! Glad to see you back on your feet as well.

Welcome back. Hope you can stick around this time. You must have left within a month of the time I joined. In fact I think my official join date was around Oct. 17 or something, so my two year anniversary is right about now.
And Bob, IIRC you joined less than a month before me, or maybe I joined less than a month before you, but anyway, yes, it was '01.

I'm pretty sure I used the name Mat or Matt when I was here...but it was a while ago, and things have been...pretty hectic, let's say.

Thanks for the warm welcome, hopefully I'll find some time when I'm not either at work or driving around to contribute some more!
