Hi everyone,
my 97 Taurus is speeding up. That is the iddle/RPM goes up to 2 when it's suppose to be on 1. What could it be? How could I fix it?

2K RPM is pretty high for warm idle. Try tapping on the IAC motor and see if the idle fluctuates.

The idle air control valve can either be straight replaced or cleaned with brake fluid.

If you clean it with brake fluid and like a toothbrush and it fixes the problem temporarily then you know replacing the part will fix it permanently.

Try disconnecting the battery and resetting the ECU to let it relearn how to idle.

1) Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect it.
2) Start the car while in park with all accessories off
3) Let it idle for at least 1 minute

and see if the problem persists or gets better

Are you up to date on your maintenance? Plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter?

Might also give a try at cleaning the MAF with Mass air flow cleaner only, and the Throttle body with a tooth brush and Brake cleaner.

disconnect your IAC valve and if your car tries to stall then your alright... On the other hand if it stays then check vacuum and your throttle and cruise control cables...
