I want back door speakers !

I have a '03 Bull , and I have been working on the sound system . First you might want to know what I already have :
Boss BV7320 Headunit (pictured)
Sony X-Plod 6x8s in front doors
Pioneer 6x8s in rear deck
Two 12 inch JL Audio subs in composite wood sealed box
Boss 1100 watt mono block amp
& four dome tweeters on the way . I'm into sound systems .

Now my problem is I would love to have speakers in my back doors , but as we all know 4th gens don't come with any . I honestly would rather have speakers in the back doors than the back deck . But obviously would love both. Has anyone done this ? If so pictures would be AWESOME . Any ideas on how to add speakers there or what size ? I'm thinking 6x8 all around .
And even though I have a nice headunit I'm no an idiot , so I'm prepared to add another amplifier to power the extra load .

It seems like whether to mount the speakers in the rear door should be the least of your worries the way things are. Boss is hardly considered a good head unit brand (or audio brand for that matter). Likewise, Sony Xplod and Pioneer coaxials are pretty much flea market quality. I can see why you don't get good sound with them. Get yourself a set of good component speakers. There is plenty. I'd recommend something at least on the same level with Polk Audio DB or MM, Massive Audio CK6, Image Dynamics CTX, or JL Audio C3 (as a bonus, the last one comes in a version for doors with oval speaker holes), etc Run a dedicated amplifier for the front mounted set. 60-90watts RMS should be enough in most cases, but try a good brand amplifier. Something on the level with say Polk, JBL, PPI, or Alpine. Avoid Boss, Dual, Jensen and the like, and I'd say also avoid Hifonics or MB Quart. One solid 4-channel should be enough to power fronts and rears. Put the supplied tweeters (supplied with the component set, not those "1000watt" tweeters) in the door sails using the tweeter pods from cars that come with mach tweeter.

Hmmm ? You again ? I have a feeling , that for what ever reason you don't like me . But that's fine , let me do this again . First , you said not one thing about mounting speakers in the back doors , instead you would rather try and make fun, or try to embarrass me . I laugh ay this . You go ahead and spend all you big money on "only, the best" . I'll chill and use what I have to the best of my ability .
I make good decisions when I choose what to put in my car , that's not a question, I know that. I can only invest what I have also .
SO WHEN YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT HOW I CAN GET SOME 6X8S IN MY BACK DOORS, come down off you almighty high horse and lend a hand . It would be appreciated .

I just see you've got a pretty much n00b install going on, so this is what I point at, without trying to insult you. Not trying to sound elitist or anything like that. Neither, I suggest that you throw money at the highest priced stuff. However, the very lowest level bottom end of audio market is always filled with things that are pretty much junk. It's only wise to look a level or two above. Ask anyone who has spent some time playing with car audio what they think of say Sony speakers. In car audio, it's better get the basics right, instead of getting them wrong and then bolt on something on top to fix them.
Listen , I'm a 20 year old with a full time job, I go to college full time and have a son that is due in January . So after I feed my pregnant lady, pay my bills, buy books, put gas in my Taurus to run her to doctors appointments and me back and forth to school , this is what I can afford !
I could be out selling crack and shooting people, but I choose not to .
Now if you would like to provide the equipment that you speak of , I would have no problems, more than pleased to install it , can't afford professional installation, you wanna talk bout that too .
Come on man , talk about the topic or leave me alone before I get mad .

Sounds like you can't afford to put speakers in the rear doors to me, I would save my money for baby formula (That **** is EXPENSIVE!!) that being said you could put rear speakers in but it would require skills to add a OEM looking grille to the rear doors.

There is no real benefit to adding door speakers to the car though, the rear deck lid provides a better acoustic enclosure than a door. fct isn't trying to get down on you and he gave you advice, it's not bad advice either but you'll spend more on putting in rear door speakers than buying some quality components for the front and decent 6x8's in the rear deck.

Don't get me wrong you can simply cut a hole in the door and use the supplied grille and run the wiring through the door grommet and it would be fine, I just don't think that it's going to look or sound better than quality speakers.

You asked for advice and you don't have the budget, then figure something out on your own. Nobody is trying to talk down to you, drop the shields ok?

Troy. :)

word. I believe there was a thread on here about how nice people are around here. So lets keep it up. But as for the speakers ive seen it done. i dont have pictures but my buddy didnt have speakers on his rear doors and had tiny little speakers on his fronts. We're pretty good friends with the local Custom audio shop so we had them just custom fabricate mounts for his car. He 5.5 inch circle speakers in the front and 5 inch in the rear doors. ill grab some pictures from him when i can and put em up. they had to do quite a bit of fabrication to his door though and it took a lot of time and a few smashed ideas. My opinion it wasnt worth it. he agrees. The only difference is that the middle and high range are actually audible now over his subs. hes kind of a fan of sound systems too. he has 2 alpine type x subs in his trunk. and you can hear him from like a mile away.

Yea id have to say the same! Not trying to be mean or anything but sony speakers used to be good but other brands have taken over the market like JBL, and Alpine. I recently went over board on my Taurus sound system ($2,000) and im a full time college student so i know how it feels to always be low on money. Id say just wait a while till you get enough to get 4 great speakers and a amp to power them. Id recommend getting the alpine type r speakers if you want great sound.

Wow hahaa i just noticed where you lived. First person i have seen on the forum thats from SD. :D I just recently moved to SD for college.
Oh really?? where you going to school?
Ok at the risk of being a hypocrite. I owned a Sony head unit from
2003-a few months ago. Sony is ok.... :-/ What is the fascination of rear door speakers when you really are barely supposed to know the speakers are there? My components at medium volume I no longer hear the rear speakers.....and yes I have the Mach tweeter enclosures housing the tweeter from my Kappa perfect tweeters. Excellent location. My 2 cents is buy components for the front stage and save the rest of your cash for your child. Just take your time and be fiscally conservative and do yourself a favor and grab a set of Mach tweeter enclosure from the Jyard and with a decent set in the front you won't worry about the back. Also before I went to "kappa perfects I had the "pioneers". All you need is better tweeter location for the front stage components and you'll should be set. Btw my first aftermarket deck was a Sanyo tape deck that I thought was the ummmmm "stuff". I was in my 20's in college making $6 an hour. This is what I have in stalled now. It took 20 years for me to install "near" high end stuff on my 8 year old car. Still not very rich or even close but I make 8-10 times more per year than I did in college. Nothing wrong with starting out with a boss head unit .

I forgot to mention if you want rear speakers for your doors get the dimensions of the speakers that you want to place in the doors...5 1/4 or 6 1/2 or 6x8 *then go to the local junkyard and remove the rear door assembly and see if you have the depth clearance so you will be able to roll your windows down. *The tweeters can be mounted anywhere. *Its a go if you can maintain the integrity of the door and your speakers will fit. *If you have a Gen 4 like me anything larger than a 5 1/4 and its a no go unless you want to do a fiberglass construct and you will lose your magazine door rack. *You'd have a lot of plastic you are going to have to cut. *It would be a big job. *You will need a heated cutting tool. *Not worth buying for one job so....So I recommend going to your college engineering/maintenance dept and perhaps someone in ther carpentry department and asking if (they) can use one of ther tools to cut your plastic and drill your pilot holes for your 5 1/4 mounting bracket. Give them some cash say $20-25. *When I was in college my carpentry dept cut and sealed my sub box for free. *I worked there for the summer months and had a good reputation. *Before you go through all the trouble I would think it through. *Without an expensive HD 5.1-7.1 and at a low volume how will you benefit from the sound? *With subs lets be honest you will not know the rear speakers are even there unless the sub is off. *To appreciate the sound you won't be able to slam your subs. *Is your goal sound quality or just speakers in the door just to have speakers in the doors? *You will have to have the volume low and take time positioning the 4 tweeters in the back. *I almost put speakers in the doors (two Taurus's ago) *until a Circuit City Mobile audio manager took a look at my 1995 Taurus door and said that I it would mess up the integrity of the door. *So I kept the pioneer 6x8's in the rear deck for two more Taurus's until I could afford to go component all around. But 5 1/4's may be do able and not terrible expensive seeing you are fiscally responsible with your audio purchases.

Rear door speakers. 3rd gen though. It can be done. This is a wagon and the acoustics suck with the factory setup.

my 93 SHO has all Alpine speakers, Great sound, they came with car when bought it.
PA PD-702 Din Flip-Up LCD Touch Screen head unit.
Kicker c154 15" subwoofer
Kicker zx500 amplifier for sub only.
Kicker dx200 4 channel amplifier for the rest of my speakers.
the all alpine speakers are great, and came with car when i bought it, Kicker 15" sub i picked up out of a pontiac at my local J/Y, quality amp to power it set me back $240 the other amp for my speakers i got for my GL but never finished setting it up and decided to put it in my SHO payed $200 for it, and the touch screen head unit cost me $165.

im not trying to impress anybody but myself, If anyone thinks MY sound system is noob, and i went cheap, then im sorry, it sounds good to me and i like it the way it is, god knows i have spent enough money on it!

My HU has Extensive EQ settings, check yours, mine i can fine tune each speaker and its an older Kenwood.
mine is also custom adjustable on each speaker, but i run it on auto balance and set the EQ for Powerful, and it sounds great, happy with it, no fuzz, background noise, all speakers are in sync with each other even the sub, bass sounds good, no voice or music drowning out, i am utterly happy with my sound system, and that is all that should matter right?

but one problem did crop up, i was listening to my system with the car off and after 30 min of this the battery was too run down to start the car, i went out and bought a Marine Deep Cycle/Cranking battery and problem solved opened doors and used it for a DJ at a family get together, it was on with car off for 6 hours, car started fine when i was done!

is battery drainage a common problem when putting a good system in like this?

In my experience, yes because your new head unit (and Amplifier) are pulling sometimes double the voltage that the stock radio system would.
With any good system over 1000 watts you need the big 3 done and an upgraded alternator. I would never play my system with the car off personally. Why kill off your batteries? If I did play it would only run a short time before cutting off. It also would severely cut short the life expectancy of my D31 Optima battery. I had a long conversation with Optimas technical support. My subs at 1 ohm are gobbling at least 2-3k rms whan slamming. If I turn off the the subs I could play for who knows how long. Anyway my batteries are all out of warranty and in need of replacing too. But I will wait til next year and figure it out.
