Last time I removed the seat, I removed the whole ass'y. Now I need to do it one more time. I wonder if there is a way to leave the fixed part (rail) on the floor and take out the moving part (seat). I looked under but couldn't quite figure out the way. Anyone has done it before?

You can, but it's going to be more of a PITA than just removing the 4 bolts and disconnecting the seat. You'd have to disconnect the lumbar knob, remove the housing assembly to pull through the butt cushion. Then disconnect the 4 bolts holding the butt cushion to the frame/track/ Then remove the trim panels and remove the bolt and nut holding the seat back on...
