I Can't Belive This Happened To Me, Again!

I was driving to school at 7:00am when I rear ended a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee... the sun was in his (small) tail lights so I didnt see that he was stopped for a red light that was ahead (of which i couldnt see cause of the huge rear ends of his SUV)... I hit goung about 15MPH and we were both fine.... His car suffered a scratched exhaust pipe tip and some scrapes on his bumper. I, however, wasnt so lucky. The car is still driveable, but now I haveta come up with a deductable for this:
Hood Damage:

Bumper/Grille Damage:

Overall Damage:

but what can you do? i needed my ins rates to go up.... again...

Why bring the insurance in on that? Just smash out the dent for now, and work up the cash and buy a new hood (or one off a totaled taurus and get it painted). Buff out the damage on the bumper, that doesn't look bad at all. Simple, cheaper. Insurance companies (those bas'tas!) don't have to be involved

You are probably better off paying fattortoise to fix it. If you for see the same situation happening again, you may want to work out a fequent customer discount....j/k

Yeah, doesn't look like much damage. The only thing I would be worried about poping the hood out is if that may change its integrity in a full head on accident and may not bend as it is supposed to.
Sorry to hear about that, but it aleast it isn't too bad. Sure seems like a high hit for a Jeep. Was it raised any?

Also, if you don't want to take it to the insurance, try to pop out the dent as much as possible until you find a replacement. Or, you could always just put a bra over it and cover it.

Good luck with the fix.

LMAO!!!

I was thinking the same thing.

That sucks..
I would definitely look into a DIY fix. The biggest expense will probably be a hood. I'd start checking junk yards - it'd be really nice if you can find one the right color, if not then it might be worth the insurance claim...

My dad and I was gonna look into DIY, but hes an OTR truck driver and I'm about as mechanicly inclined as a door knob. with the Ins., we also get rental car, I wonder if I can just use that while I'm having the car fixed... we already reported to the Ins Co, so I think its too late to even look into a DIY w/o having the rates go up...

PS: the reason why I say it happened to me again is cause when I had the Green Bomber, I rear ended a Ford Escape on my way to school not but a half a mile where this accident took place... the Bomber had to have an Engine/Tranny replacement...good thing the LTD was a common car in the wreck yards, got both for less than $500... Lucky me, all that I have is cosmetic damage... and I'm looking into prolly getting a Car bra in the mean time...(worred about rubbing paint, thou)

And people say I shouldn't drive
difference is... I KNOW I shouldn't Drive...LOL
I wouldn't worry too much about paint rubbing, since you'll already need to have your hood repainted. But with a quality bra, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just take it off time to time and wax your paint. You'll be fine.
There is no way you could have been going 15 and only that happen. The last time I was in an accedent, I was going about 10 and had 6,500 worth of damage. If you haven't paid the insurance company, I don't think it is too late to back out. I am sure you can get all that fixed for under $500, way cheaper than raised rates, yet alone the deductable. Just make sure it didn't hit any radiator supports or anything like that.

I actually went under the Jeep....I dont think it was lifted, but the rear was a good 3 feet off the ground... I think his tail pipe stopped me...LOL I dont know exactly how fast I was going, but my airbags didnt go off, so it was at least under 25... The hood damage was from his bumper and the bumper/grille damage was from his tail pipe.... I'm jus glad that it didnt take out my head lamp assembly, too... and as far as I can tell, there is no mechanical damage... still holds all fluids and runs like a champ...

You could probably get away with just replacing the hood and just painting the bumper. I saw a bunch of Taurus parts on Ebay, I think the hood shipped was $250, then you'd have to get it painted and put on. I think the bumper was $150 shipped if that's what you wanted to do.

So I'm just wondering if this teaches you to never tailgate an SUV or any vehicle you can't see around because they can always stop suddenly for any reason. I suppose I should also point out that you should never tailgate anyone period, but if you do, just don't do it to anyone who's already tailgating someone else. Just part of the tailgating rules so you'll decrease the odds of rear ending anyone again.
Yeah, you probably just have to replace the hood. I wouldn't spend the money on repainting the bumper... maybe just a few artistic strokes with OEM Ford touch-up paint would be good enough.
Theres a place online that sells body parts really cheap, I know the fenders were only $40 a peice..I think hoods were around $300. I'm trying to find it as we speak, I'll repost if I do.
Oh my EFF'ING GOD!
You live in MY city! I seen your plate cover! Pueblo?
Jesus! that is insane! Hey, so what road were you on?
Did ya get caught in that HUGE traffic jam where 4th/lincoln crossed EVANS, and a few feet up, Abriendo? ya KNOW that is the worst part to drive in our city!

WOW folks! I wonder if this guy is someone who I saw his car and thought "cool, blue Taurus, nice color".

Drop me a line.

OH BTW - you could prolly fix that hood yourself - pop out the dent and work with some body filler and IF you can find some of that paint color at AUTO ZONE, (on Northern and Cambridge - where i get a lot of my stuff, for i live walking distance)
If not, Freedom Ford...

I actually live in Greeley (north of denver), but the car is from Tri-County in Pueblo. That cover was on the back, but I didnt like it there, so I moved it to the front (dont know why...LOL)... anyway, I've been to Pueblo a few times, mainly just passing thru..

But I do have plans for that hood now... seeing how its already messed up and I'll prolly buy a new one, I'm thinking I'll experiment with Ram Air... just haveta figure out the water issue... I'll post a concept pic when I get around to making one...

Sorry to get your hopes up....LOL...

and another crazy thing, there are 2 other taurus' that are the same color and gen where I go... One here in greeley and the other is right accross the street from my school (in JeffCo Airport)...small world....LOL, but the hoods look tempting...
