1999 DOHC - My cylinder lock keeps locking up. I would like to replace it, but I'm left with 2 options. 1. PATS key that requires a scan tool at the dealership. 2. Just the cylinder lock and keys. How do I tell if this car requires the PATS key? Also, is there anyway to disable the feature before I switch out the keys? Thanks!

Damn...I think I posted this in the wrong forum...This site has changed some since the last time my Taurus needed fixed.

If the hole in the key is off center, then you have a PATS key. If thats what you are asking. If your car is now using a chip key then you'll probably need to replace it with the same, because your ignition system is programmed to start with only the right chip key. GOOD LUCK!

The correct answer is that all dohc engines use pats and don't go to the dealer, find a good locksmith with a programmer, but even then it'll be like 100 bucks...
