few days before i noticed some noise in my Taurus 2001 SE compressor, when the AC clutch engages the noise was there, like some broken piece inside. but the AC worked fine.

yesterday while i was driving i noticed belt slip & smell, i stopped the AC and it got ok, then when i stated the compressor again it was like jammed but rotating. so i kept it off, when i checked again, compressor turned normal but with the same noise i explained, this time no cooling. i could see the compressor engaged.

the millage on my car is 160,000km, is it a reasonable time for a compressor to be replaced / to fail? in a year you can say 6 months we run with AC. so if it is 160,000 then the compressor has run for 80,000 kms.

i welcome your advise & information
