Chances are you have the 3.8 liter V6, but im not 100% sure.
If you look under your hood it should say right on the intake manifold the type/size of the engine.

1996 was the first model year for the Duratec in a Bull...

Right. A "U" in the 8th position of your VIN means you have a 3.0L "vulcan" engine.

Some other 3.0L Taurus/Sables with vulcan engines have a "2" in the 8th position of the VIN, which means they are a "flex fuel vehicle", and can run on ethanol as well as regular gasoline. These FFVs were not available as an option in 1991, though.
