the large mark on the large piece is where the diff pin hit the inside of the transmission and cracked and broke the case....it didn't go though it like they usually do but i think it was b/c i was at 2000 rpm's when it happened.....i was coming back to work from lunch and i heard a loud boom like i hit something....well i limped it back to work and into the shop where it dumped alll the tranny fluid and the diff pin and large chuck of the case was on the shop floor...
.....well that was a waste of a grand and now i have to drive a car with no heat...sorry if i sound like a prick or come off as a whinny person or just ranting to rant....but this has been a very bad 3 or 4 weeks for me and just nothing can go right for me and when i think it can't get any worse it does....oh well it's just material possesions

Sorry to hear that Greg
I take it there didn't happen to be a short term warranty on your tranny or anything that could help you get it replaced? Your car is awesome and I really admire the time, effort and, of course, money you are putting into it. I hope all goes well.

GET A VULCAN

Hey now... you gotta give him mad props for working is @ss off to keep a nearly extinct breed of SHO alive
If nobody did what he is doing there wouldn't be any SHOs left.
It's only a matter of time, so let's keep these things alive.

I guess this is the part where I should add that I am hoping to get a gen2 SHO this summer if I can afford it.

Vulcans suck.

Hey now. Don't be blaming your lack of mechanics skills on the almighty Vulcan

I dont know guys...I think it would be quite a step down in performance going from an MTX SHO to a vulcan with a slushbox.

I think he's more likely to cross over to the dark side (evil Chevy) because he works at the dealership.
and get what? Show me a cheap GM car that can compete with the SHO in ANY way, especially one from the early 90's. Only motor would maybe that Quad 4 motor, but those were quite rare I believe.

What price range are we takin here? Most v8 SHO's I've seen are going for 4-6K (haven't price mtx's). You can pick up a hoopty box chevy (something in the 80's: monte carlo, el camnio, malibu, etc.) for maybe 1500 at the most, the buy a crate motor for another 3500 and BAM you're in the 14's at least. (My friend did it with a monte carlo) Or, he could just throw some parts on whatever engine and tranny came with the hoopty for less than buying a crate motor and it will still haul some a**. Or hell, maybe he can get a good deal on a camero since he works at the dealership. Who knows. But I bet any of the above would beat a vulcan, maybe even an SHO.

I'm not trying to put ideas in Tman's head, BTW.

He won't get a nice handling car, nor good brakes...the point of the SHO is you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a car with a great suspension, high breathing motor, strong brakes, and the sleeper Taurus look. I have owned a Buick, and GM certainly can't gear a front-drive car for the life of them. Sure you could drop a crate motor in, but that's a lot of work whereas you could buy a SHO off a lot and you already get a V-8 beating engine.

Btw, V-8 SHOs did not come with MTXs. The V-6s (Which are arguably faster) did however, and are much cheaper. It's still a Taurus; but then again, you ever owned an early 90's GM? You get my point.

The V6s are much quicker than the V8s IMO. The gen 3 is heavy and the SHO V8 makes something like 170 wheel hp, whereas the gen 1 and 2 MTXs are putting down almost 190, stock, with the 5 speed...and ~175 with the ATX with a weight advantage over the gen 3.

If I wanted a SHO (which I do but...ugh dont remind me! lol) I'd buy a gen 2.
