I have never heard of a home rebuild that didnt end up leaking more or ended up more noisy than before the rebuild attempt.

How much is it leaking? Where is it leaking from? Can you just add fluid every day or 2 so you can drive to / from work until you get the $$ for a replacement pump?

Hi Jeff,

Your words discourage me! I just bought the PS rebuilding kit from AutoZone for $8. It contains many O-rings and some metal parts.

why, in your opinion, most home-mechnic rebuilding won't work?
what's the tricky part in this project?

If rebuilding doesn't improve at all, I'd rather spend $60 to get a
brand new pump, and save my precious time.

thanks a lot.

Often times, seals have put a grove in the shaft, pump housing is worn, etc. A few O rings wont fix that. If only the shaft seal is leaking, you might get lucky and be able to save the pump.
