I just installed a pair of heated side view mirrors on my 99 Taurus. The original mirrors were not heated. Does the rear window defroster switch turn the mirror heating elements on? Will the glass be warm to the touch if they are working?

Yes and yes. It won't be hot to the touch, but a little warm.

I've been trying to figure out if I can swap the heating elements and mirrors from my Sable onto my non-heated Gen IV...

Anyone know? Are the mirrors the same shape and size?

Yes JR, Everything is basically the same as a g3. Heated mirrors will work with your g4, just make sure you get the whole harness. Plug-n-play just like the g3's.

There's a connector behind the door panel, so it's a pretty easy swap.

I know what I'll be doing over my little Christmas vacation!

Your GenIV may or may not have that harness.

There has been several people say they have it and several people say they don't have it.

I have a set I am going to put on the 99 I hope that POS has it.

^^^^If I had weather like yours, I don't think I'd care. If I had a choice between heated mirrors and having to chisel ice off of my car out in the cold or enjoying nice sunny days warm days where I could wash my car instead. I'd choose "B". :)

I have heated mirrors. Too bad I'll never get a chance to use them.

I was in Reno and it was a hundred during the day and we went on a bus to somewhere around carson city or someshit to a bbq and watched them herd some cows into a pen ,when the sun went down I nearly froze to death

Might try that little trip

Yes, my rear defroster turns on when I start the car. It starts the rear defrost and the interior heat unless I had turned on A/C the last time I shut off the car and kept it on.

Lol, the weather here is so random. But yeah, it's warm during the day, but bundle up at night.

It was snowing in the morning, but it melted by noon. I think it got up to the 50s later.
